Our Work

We’re storytellers by trade. And while it started with Tia writing a newspaper at 7 years old and selling it at her family’s general store for 25 cents, we’re happy to report that over the years we’ve fine-tuned the art of telling stories and to this day, it’s one of our favorite things to do. With storytelling and solid writing at our core, below are some examples of the work we’ve delivered.

LET’S TALK ABOUT IT
“I initially worked with Tia as a travel writer. Her ability to share the story of a destination, and inspire others to do the same, is second to none. She knows precisely what media needs in order to create content that compels readers. My outstanding experience partnering with her in that capacity was a major factor in my advocating for her destination to be selected for a high profile, multi-year, international campaign with Expedia. The initiative was a resounding success thanks to Tia’s core competencies as a broadly skilled Public Relations and Communications professional, and her relentless pursuit of excellence. What really sets Tia apart, though, is her ability to develop strategic, forward-thinking PR plans and programs, and her ability to see them through effortlessly, meticulously, and with a clear vision for success. Tia is a PR professional in whom you can place your complete trust and confidence. Your business’s reputation couldn’t be in more capable hands.”
-Caanan Reiersgaard

“Tia is, quite simply, a rock star at PR. She has helped me multiple times over the years on a number of assignments in a variety of roles: journalist, blogger, social media influencer, and more. In every case, Tia was so clued in to the goals of my work that she practically anticipated my requests before I made them. When I did have to ask for additional information, pictures, or sources, she had everything I needed ready to go within minutes. I also really appreciate Tia’s attention to detail – she has taken the time to get to know me so she knows precisely what kinds of stories and angles I like. That professionalism makes everything better – my experience, my reporting, the overall story, and, of course, the ROI for the DMO. I recommend Tia Troy without reservation. In fact, I wish more PR people were like her (though I recognize that then her talents wouldn’t stand out as much).”

Augusta Area Chamber of Commerce
In spring 2018, Augusta had massive floodwaters run through town creating havoc on residents and businesses and causing the annual Augusta Rodeo to be rescheduled. However, as tourism is one of the major economic drivers in this small town of 400, Augusta wanted Montana to know they were still open for business. Due to some quick work and media outreach, Lighting Bug Public Relations was able to secure positive coverage in more than six key media outlets and markets in Montana (including Helena, Great Falls, Billings and Butte), letting folks know that Augusta was still open and welcoming travelers.

Wyoming Office of Tourism
Most recently, Tia spent 19 months as the in-house Media + PR Manager at the Wyoming Office of Tourism, where she garnered placements in Men’s Health, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, San Francisco Chronicle, Denver Post, Orbitz, Budget Travel and Thrillist, among others. Under her guidance, the PR program saw an increased reach of 210 million in circulation/readership in one year. In addition, the Wyoming Office of Tourism recently won a Mercury Award at ESTO for their website redesign of TravelWyoming.com. Tia played an integral role in the relaunch of this site, including creating new landing pages for national parks, historic sites and monuments, and writing new copy throughout the site.

Glacier Country Tourism, Montana
Tia worked in-house as the Communication Manager at Glacier Country Tourism for nearly eight years as she helped market Western Montana. While there, she created and launched a consumer-facing social media plan, a business-to-business social media plans, secured $91 million dollars in editorial value, delivered millions of impressions in circulation and readership, wrote travel guide/website/newsletter copy and managed hundreds of media and social media influencer visits.
